Can Word Verification Get Any Worse?

Have you seen the new Word Verification

A PHOTO, and a bad one at that, of a number, maybe a house number on a door.
Followed by a black and white, strangely shaped and stretched out word that makes no sense.  I don't know about you all; however,
I Can't Read These
I try
I try three or four times
maybe
five or six.
From now on, I'll try one or two times and then
No comment.

Sorry, I love to give comments,
It's nice to get comments on your blog
I just simply cannot read these.

I agree! They're a real stress.

I turned mine off or at least I think I did...grin. I hate proving I'm breathing. It took me 4 times to get one comment posted the other day.

I change the zoom level on Explorer to 150% to try to read these and still end up hitting the little doohicky that gives you a new set of letters about five or six times before I get something even remotely readable, and even then I'm still not sure I got right. Then if someone doesn't publish your post, you spend the rest of the day wondering if they just don't like you anymore or if the post just didn't go through because you didn't get the letters right.

I'm with you Kathy! When I saw this "new" word verification the other day, I almost cried!!

I'm honestly thinking about not following anyone who still uses word verification. Not only is it a result of being lazy, it's completely rude to your readers. Sometimes, I can't even BEGIN to make out what the words are, and you're right about the numbers. I got one this morning that was so bad that I couldn't even SEE a number, let alone make out what it was! Of course some people honestly don't know that it's enabled.

Even with word verification I was getting spam on my blog. I dropped it and went to moderated comments. I miss the pleasant suprise of finding comment when I go to my blog. I don't miss the unpleasant suprise of someone hawking a commercial site.

Nice blog btw.

I think moderated is probably the way to go. I really don't get spam, I have a couple of times but I like moderated anyway just in case you get someone who uses completely filthy language or is trying to sell something.

You're right, when Blogger changed the first time it threw me into a Word Verification. It took someone else to warn me and I quickly removed it. I also put up some text under my Title telling everyone to let me know if it happens again!

This has to be hurting people that selling things on their blogs- like quilt fabric, rulers, links to their shops.

I agree too. Agree with your whole post. I feel bad that I won't be replying, but I despise the new verification. Why couldn't they leave well enough alone?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Kathy. I have turned word verification off on my blog. I always moderate comments anyway, so I don't see the point.

Oh good! I don't mind a word verification, especially for those that want open comments. That would be particularly good for bloggers with thousand of followers that always comment. It would be way too much work to moderate all that. I just wish they would go back to the way it first was, regular letters and numbers like the animal shelter challenge website I click on (to get donations for feed). It is so easy to read and takes only a second or less to enter.

I don't like them and have managed to take them off two of mine. I can't get them off my husbands Blog because they have now changed the design page. I wish they would make things easier instead of harder.

Hate the word verification. A real challenge for me. I would rather twirl a hula hoop than attempt it.

I think you have to go to your design tab and select the wheel in the upper right, drop down and go to the old format selection, remove it there and then back to the new interface in the same manner. I think. If you Google how to remove it, there are usually instructions.

I agree. There are times I really want to leave a comment on a blog, but eventually just give up because I can't figure out what the word verification is trying to make me spell! Bloggers, if you aren't getting comments and have word verification enabled, that is probably the issue. PLEASE disable it!!
