OUCH, That Must Have Hurt!

WOW, that must have hurt!
My husband found this in the chicken coop this morning.
I think we must have a duck hiding inside a chicken costume.
I can't even shut the carton.

(Please disregard the dirty carton, the eggs are not washed)

He checked the chicks to make sure they were doing ok,
No signs of distress.

This thing takes up almost the entire cup.
Wouldn't you know I dropped it as I tried to
put it in the carton!

Ahhhhh, looky here.
I decided to put it into a container since the shell was cracked.
A double, completely separate too.

Wowee! Hopefully whoever laid that gets tomorrow off. I've only had one double-yolker before but I don't think it was near that big. That'll make a good omelette!

Wow they look like they were both the same size. Do you know how often this happens? This is the first time for my chickens. We must of been communicating telepathically today without realizing it. LOL

Lol! We have a hen that lays freak-sized eggs! That is awesome that yours was a double-yolker. We havent had one of those since the hens were just starting out.

I kind of like when the eggs are so big that you cant close the container. :-) I'm sure the hen is NOT so excited about that, though. Ouch!

I think it's going to be an omelette very soon, just after the hubby returns from deer hunting (which is in our back yard!)

This is amazing! I hear it's not good to have this happen frequently, wears out the hen and can lead to health problems. Mine was probably from the buff orpingtons based on how hard the shell was.

No, I doubt she was happy. And then Michelle (above) had the multiple yolks too and we posted about it on the same day!

WOW!!! Just WOW! That is crazy. I sometimes thing about how a hen lays so many eggs each year and the pain she must endure each time. Chickens are quite amazing animals, in my mind. <3

That is the biggest egg and you and Michelle both are getting those huge eggs!

I've heard that hens that lay double-yolked eggs lay fewer eggs and become stressed nutritionally. I don't know if it's true or not.

I wonder what the world record is for the largest egg by a chicken. I found this on the internet:
http://www.worldrecordacademy.com/nature/largest_chicken_Egg-world_record_set_in_China_90261.htm

You might have had the world record if you didn't drop it! You might have made Riply's!

Oh well. Maybe the chicken has got another one in her. :)
