Messy Porches and Baby Birds

They did it again, little barn swallows perhaps,
making their annual nest on our second floor porch ceiling fan.

Mama bird adds on to the nest, flying back and forth with bits of this and that.

Soon we notice she spends a little more time in the nest.

Then one day Poof, babies!

Last year my husband walked out on the porch to take a look.
They flew off in unison.
Off to make their way in the world.

It won't be much longer now and this batch will be feathering their own nests.
But for the time being, we'll let them make a mess of the porch.

We have them too. They are so cute but make the most mess don't they? Like you we let them nest then clean up later...cute post.

I find that kind of wonderful, in spite of the mess.
Have a wonderful week! :o)

Ohhh, the birds seem to be gone now and there are feathers in the yard. We may have lost one. :(

Too cute! Worth the mess for sure.

I wonder why our birds prefer light fixtures over the 40 acres of trees that surround our house...they do make a mess and I must admit to discouraging the efforts of one nest builder who insisted on making a home directly above the first step up onto our porch. It is the main entrance and we could not handle the projected mess that would come. Eventually she left and built a nest in a nearby tree which made much more sense to us.

We love our bluebirds though - they are very considerate neighbors and always use the bluebird houses we built along the walking path...now that is playing nice!

Love your pictures! Sorry about the feathers in the yard. :(
We have a pair of birds who like to nest INSIDE the porch light fixture. Last year, hubby put wire over the top but this year, they keep trying and trying. I noticed when I was watering the geraniums this morning that the wire is gone! Wonder how they managed that?!?
