Search for the Perfect Perch

I'm still in search of the perfect perch.
My husband thought we could try a log,
the other chicks like logs.

No, I guess not.

Bird got stuck beneath an end table
and thought she'd try out this perch.
It was better, but too high off the ground.

This is actually one of a pair of end tables
that are early electric sewing machine
cabinets, complete with all the instruction manuals
and gadgets.  We have them next to the
couch and between recliners.

She also tried our counter height bar stool chairs
but those must have been too skinny.
The best width so far has been the coffee table.
I guess that is what I'll go for when we make a perch.

This has also been very enlightening.
I need to get down on hands and knees
and wipe down all the baseboards!
(My husband is messy- that's it.
I'll blame him)

I'm not a fan of chicken poop in my house or back door steps, ours learn to stay in run area. Glad your girl is doing better
Love Leanne

Haha. Bad hubby. ;-)
Yup. Go for what Bird seems to like best. :-)

Leanne, I can't put her in with the rest. Her eye is grossly malformed and the chickens tried to peck it out so we keep her in the house. I figure that it's no worse than those with a parrot. She doesn't have the typical chicken poop, I suppose because she doesn't drink the amount of water that most birds do so it's not messy.

Linda,
Really it IS my husband's mess- or Taylor's. I think they have spilled a drink and cleaned the floor forgetting the baseboard.

She lives in a trough in the back hall. She just comes out to walk when we let her, typically after she eats.

Floors clean up . I think your doing a great job for this poor chicken. You win my award for the most caring person.

Bird needs to be inside. She is a special needs Bird. We had one of those once. In fact, we had a bunch of them when my daughter lived with us. She would raise them until they could survive outside. At some point maybe you can build bird a little house of her own that stays on the back porch, something along those lines.

Yep, I think I would like to give her some outside time. Sometimes I take her out on the (tall) deck and let her walk in the sunshine. We don't use the deck because it is way too hot so I mentioned I would love to make something covered out there to provide shade so she could be out a bit, even if not all day long. When we have the folding awnings up or the umbrella, it's very nice. I think she wants the set up that the ducks at the Peabody in Memphis. http://www.peabodymemphis.com/peabody-ducks/

She is a pretty bird and she is lucky to have you has her owner. You do what you have to do when it comes to our animals...even if it is cleaning up after them in the house.
