Does Anyone Use Roku to watch Hulu Plus?

Some of you know that we are going to drop our satellite provider in favor for Free television.  We have an antenna (HD) and can get several channels.  Hulu Plus was also recommended.  Getting opinions.

We are wondering if anyone has used Roku to watch Hulu?
Do you like it?
Any issues with it?
Are you in a city, suburb or rural?

Hi Kathy,
We use a Roku to watch Hulu and Hulu Plus, Netflix streaming, PlayOn and there's some other free services you can watch using a Roku. We also have another Roku in another room for the kids to use on occasion. We can access everything from both Roku boxes. We really like it. We live in a rural area and haven't had any issues. We also use a GE Futura indoor antenna for times when we need local news, it works okay, and we use it so rarely, it works for us. We canceled our DirecTV in November of 2010 and we haven;t regretted it at all. We save $72 a month which is $864 a year! I hope this helps!

If you're interested I wrote a post about it back then: (http://planetpowers.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/beware-of-little-expenses-a-small-leak-will-sink-a-great-ship-benjamin-franklin/)

Thank you for the comment! I think we'll try this.

We have Dish for our satellite and yes the cost is prohibitive, but we live out in the sticks and Internet can be hit or miss at times. I don't know anything about Hulu. :)

Hi Kathy, we use a Roku box upstairs and another downstairs in the family room. We watched Netflix streaming through it for a long time, but when they changed their pricing, let our account lapse. We tried a trial for Hulu Plus, but the reception was pretty terrible. The trial was for a whole week, and every single thing we tried watching had to stop and render forever. We weren't very impressed.

We're in a rural area too, but what we've ended up using the most is Amazon Prime. They don't have as much content as Netflix, but since I already had an account there and use it frequently, it's been well worth it. They add new stuff all the time, too.

We have an antenna on the roof for local stuff but don't watch it very often. We canceled cable in 2008 and haven't been sorry!

Hope that helps :)

So far we've tried it and it's working well. We have the advantage of being just outside of STL and very high up on the ridgetop. Our internet is transmitted via air, line of sight, so we get a good signal while our neighbors across the street, on the north slope, can't get anything on the antenna. He can't stream. Our problem is that our income drastically declined when my husband had to shut down the construction business so we're always looking to be frugal. It is amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it, and enjoy it!

So far I've been happy without it too. There are only a couple of channels I'll miss. We'll have to look at that Amazon Prime too and see what it offers.
