Word Verification Issue
UPDATE: It appears Blogger is responsible for this and, according to the internet comments I have read, no one is pleased. I have removed the word verification because I just cannot have this on my blog. Moderation is still on so I should be able to catch any "bad" stuff that tries to come across.
I have a confession to make. I cannot read these authentication images. It often takes me ten times or better to find something I can read and the audio is even worse. I don't have any problems with the normal letters, it's the ones that are on a slant and combine black & white in a fuzzy pattern. Sometimes I have to submit this several times so I'm thinking of just giving up commenting when these are involved.
Is it just me? Perhaps I have a vision problem other than being near sighted with a slight astigmatism? I just can't do these. If I stop commenting please know that I have not stopped reading. If you ever see this on my blog, let me know because I should have it set for regular lettering.

Not just you. Me too. Are they really necessary? You can have the option for regular lettering? I did come across it on your blog when I commented yesterday but I was able to read it. All of a sudden all the blogs seem to have them. So far, it's made it more difficult but I haven't been stymied yet.
Ohhh, let me check that out!
Ahhhhhggggggg. It's a Blogger thing from what I read and there are LOTS of people that can't comment. Maybe they are rolling it out a little at a time and must have hit me in the last day or two. I removed word verification.
I didn't have word verication for 2 years, then I had to add it about 6 months ago because my blog was being spammed so bad, I hope I don't need to remove it again.
Yes, I hope this won't be a problem for me either. I can't imagine why they don't give you the option of creating a different font style.
Sometimes I have difficult reading those word verification things, too. If you removed it from your blog, how are you still able to moderate comments? I've been thinking about doing that. The only reason I haven't so far, is that I don't want spam on my comments section. Have a great weekend. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
I don't have word verification OR comment moderation on my blog AND I allow Anonymous comments (for my brother). I do get spam but Blogger ALWAYS sends it to my Blogger spam inbox and I have never had it show up on my blog. I get maybe 3 or 4 spam comments a week. Thank you Kathy for taking the word verification off! :)
I hate these things. What was wrong with the older ones. I could at least read them. It took me 4 trys to get a comment posted last night. That not counting the fact that it took 2 or3 trys on other blogs. I was so frustrated I just got off the laptop.
Heather, if you go to Design and then Settings you will find Moderation. You can choose moderation to be ON so nothing posts without your permission if you have your word verification disabled.
Candy- I'm still uncomfortable without moderation. I've received comments that were truly weird, nothing to do with the posts, and a couple that I was just not completely comfortable with so I didn't post them. I know I can delete them after the fact but how many had seen it before I caught it. I wish I could take moderation off.
I also went onto the Blogger Help site and found a discussion on this issue. There are a lot of upset people. I then went to the Blogger help forums and posted a comment indicating that this was hampering blogger interaction. If enough of us complain maybe they will fix it.
Thanks, Kathy :) :) i double-checked and I have "always" checked for comment moderation :) :) I removed word verification from my blog, because I don't want people to be frustrated when they visit my site. Oh yeah, and it's so much harder to read, too...not cool!!! Have a great weekend. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
Like everyone else, I am not happy about this either and yes, it is usually very difficult to make out the letters and most annoying if you need to keep trying new combinations.
My question is - how does one know if it is happening on their own blog? I have looked everywhere in my Settings and see nothing indicating Word Verification...where would this be?
It depends on what interface you are using. If you have the new one you won't see Word Verification if you already removed it. I think you have to go back to the old interface and add or remove it. I switched to the new interface after removing it so I can't see it anymore. I don't want to change things around too much because I just know it'll blow up on me!! Try this link, it's how I turned it off. http://rickpaulettervjournal.blogspot.com/2012/02/why-how-to-disable-bloggers-word.html
Preach on! I can't read it very well either! I will try this link to turn it off. Thanks
Kathy, thanks for the post. I am going to post this as well and link back to here for you!
I use a laptop for internet access. And I have bifocals. So it's not just you. I despise this change to verification.
I appreciate everyone who has turned it off and I feel for the blogs that get so much spam they have to keep it on.
Thanks for this post.
Thanks so much Kathy! I haven't heard from many of my regulars and was wondering why. I successfully removed the word verification from my blog thanks to your instructions.

The Way Grandmama Does It
I've never used anything of the sort until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting spam on two of my blogs, so now I have comment moderation turned on. Hopefully after a couple of weeks I can turn it back off because I don't like having anything at all if I can help it.
I do have a problem with both you and your husband's blogs wanting to shut down my browser window. I think it's some kind of script you have running that's causing it. Probably that spinning globe at the bottom of yours and the news ticker on his.
Are you using Chrome? I have problems if I try to use Explorer, in fact I can't even comment as me. Has it always done that? I've had the globe on for over a year, since the beginning. The only other thing I can think of is Shockwave, not that I'm using it, I don't think. I used to get shut down on FB games.
I'm using the very latest edition of IE which is very good for the most part and right now and has the best security features of all browsers at the moment. I've tried Chrome but found it to be rather slow. Firefox is hit and miss. They'll come out with a great version and then three months later the update will slap you with a buggy one. When it's good, it's really good, but when it's bad it's really bad. So it's IE for the foreseeable future.
From what I understand from tech related guys, Google products don't mix well with MicroSoft products.
